What’s Happening in the Vineyards: July 2024

Currently in the vineyards, teams are weeding, taking care of shoots, and watering to keep the vines cool.

With the impact of January’s cold snap, our members have had to get even more creative than usual in their vineyards. Some of our Westside wineries are not expecting a crop this year and are continuing to evaluate the health of the blocks that were most affected.

Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery is working to determine the right course of action in terms of re-training and/or re-planting various blocks based on how severely they were affected. They’re considering less conventional varieties and working towards a good position for next year and the future of their current plants and future plants.

Off the Grid Organic Winery is spending much of their time tucking shoots right now, as they’ve experienced a large amount of growth at the base of the vines. Caring for these shoots is important so that they can be used to replace the dead top plants next season. They are not expecting grapes for 2024, but an average of 90% of their vines are alive and trying hard to recover for next year.
