Holiday Wine Picks Westside Wine Trail

Are you wondering which wine to select for your holiday dinners and celebrations? We asked our wineries for their favourite selections and here are a few recommendations for you!

Holiday wine recommendations:

Giles Chevrier, the Cellarmaster at Rollingdale Winery recommends

“2016 La Gauche” Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a mid- bold Bordeaux style blend, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some of our award-winning Cabernet Franc and a bit of Malbec. “I think that it pairs beautifully with roast beef. Recently, I was eating my usual snack; heated roast beef topped with white cheddar on a fresh bun when I noticed that it didn’t taste quite right. I then noticed that I was drinking something other than the Cabernet Sauvignon. Once I corrected my choice of beverage, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I hope you enjoy our Cabernet Sauvignon as much as I do.”

Louise Dabisza, Wine Shop Manager at Quails’ Gate Winery recommends

2017 Optima Late Harvest (Botrytis Affected)
“The first time I was introduced to this wine paired with blue cheese, all I could think of was “Unbelievable.” This luscious wine with dried apricot, quince and honey flavours is a must for holiday entertaining.”

Alana Lubchynski, Winemaker at Beaumont Family Estate Winery recommends

the Beaumont Pinot Noir
“The French oak embraces the certified organic Pinot Noir grapes and is absolutely perfect with a roast beef supper and savory roasted veggies. It also pairs wonderfully with salmon.”

Loic Jacquet, Estate Sommelier at Mt Boucherie Winery recommends

2016 Mt Boucherie Syrah
An elegant wine, clean fresh black fruit, touch of spice, well integrated flavours (tannins & oak) Well balanced! “My fav pairings that would compliment wine and enhanced the experience are a lamb stew, a steak and kidney pie, prime rib or grilled tenderloin, morels mushrooms, caramelized onions, with a blackberry Syrah reduction”

Kathryn Zondag, Marketing Manager for Volcanic Hills Estate Winery recommends

their 2017 Bubbly Gewürztraminer
“The holidays are for celebrating OFTEN, and this bottle of dry bubbles let’s you do so without breaking the bank! Holiday Brunch? Skip the Mimosa! Gathering with an appetizer spread? This is one light and floral bottle that pairs well with EVERYTHING!”

Mike Lee, Sommelier at Quails’ Gate Winery recommends

the 2016 Stewart Family Reserve Chardonnay
“This wine is our flagship white at Quail’s Gate. It receives more international awards than any other in our portfolio and for very good reason. The fruit is sourced from our best blocks above the Boucherie Road overlooking the winery. The wine is barrel fermented and has gone through full malolactic fermentation. The resulting wine is rich and creamy in style with ripe stonefruit, vanilla, spice and toasted hazelnut. On the palate the wine has great texture and mouthfeel yets retains a wonderful spine of lemony acidity to add freshness and balance.”
